Square Pad 150 × 150 mm – Create shades without too regular a pattern
The Square Pad MA25191 from Marmorino Tools is a manual pad of 150 × 150 mm designed to work with paints, glazes, patinas, and other decorative finishes while they are still workable.
Unlike a trowel that mainly aims to spread or smooth the material, the Pad allows for stamping, blending, shading, or locally removing. By varying the pressure, rotation, and position of the tool, the applicator creates lighter or more intense areas, diffuse transitions, and deliberately irregular movements.
It is particularly interesting when one wishes to achieve a cloudy or patinated effect, without leaving too linear or repetitive a gesture.
A tool particularly suited for cloudy effects
The square format of 150 × 150 mm allows for working a relatively large area with each contact while maintaining good control.
Light and irregular pressures allow for a gradual evolution of the finish. By regularly rotating the pad, the imprints do not always repeat in the same orientation, and the decor becomes more natural.
The result can remain very soft with little contrast or become more pronounced when several shades or amounts of material are used.
Working a patina or a glaze by adding or removing material
The Square Tampon can be used in different ways depending on the finish.
It can receive a small amount of product and then be applied in successive touches to create shades and overlays. Conversely, a patina or glaze already present on the support can be partially removed with the tampon to reveal certain areas and create more transparency.
This second approach is particularly interesting for developing depth: some parts remain more loaded while others gradually become lighter.
Create a different rendering with Velluto Fiorentino
At Stucco Déco, the Square Tampon can notably be used as a decorative variant with Loggia's Velluto Fiorentino.
The traditional application of Velluto Fiorentino is done with a spatula or stainless steel trowel. However, the tampon allows for exploring another rendering by working locally with the still fresh material.
The tamponing gestures can make transitions more diffuse, break certain overly regular movements, and create a more cloudy and random, while preserving the characteristic light variations of this decorative finish.
This is a complementary Stucco Déco technique and not the standard application method recommended by Loggia.
For patinas, faux marbles, and customized decorative effects
The Tampone can also be used to create a nuanced background before applying the veining of a faux marble.
It allows for the construction of colored masses, transparencies, and cloudy areas before intervening with Fine Art veining brushes. The decor gains depth without the tampon being used directly to draw the veins.
On certain stone or rock effects, the same principle can be used to distribute a patina irregularly and visually enhance the hollows and reliefs.
Tampon or sponge: a different decorative result
A sponge generally prints a texture directly related to its honeycomb structure.
A soft-surfaced tampon allows for more creation of visual folds, diffuse transitions, and less “spongy” color variations. The result is closer to a patina or a cloud than to a regular imprint.
This is what makes the Tampone Carré particularly interesting for finishes where a soft, irregular, and handcrafted look is desired.
