Create warm browns and mineral shades with an oxide colorant
The Mixol Brown No. 3 is a liquid colorant concentrate without binder intended to tint many compatible paint and finishing products.
Identified by Mixol as No. 3 Oxide Brown, it develops a true brown tone and is particularly distinguished by its classification LW-Oxide. This feature makes it interesting for creating colors in certain mineral, silicate, or silicone resin-based systems for which Mixol specifically recommends its oxide shades.
In a light base, its dosage allows for a gradual transition from a light brown beige to a much more pronounced brown. It is particularly suitable for palettes inspired by terracotta, clay, wood, leather, and mineral materials.
A more pronounced brown than Natural Umber No. 2
Brown No. 3 has a different chromatic identity than Natural Umber No. 2.
Whereas No. 2 develops a much duller and grayer shade, the No. 3 produces a more clearly identifiable brown, with a warm presence that allows for the construction of earth, clay, or mineral brown shades.
It can also be combined with other Mixol concentrates. With compatible yellows, reds, or oranges, it allows the mixture to lean towards warmer and earthier shades. Used in small quantities in an existing color, it can also serve to reduce its saturation or to add more depth.
The result always depends on the starting base and the dosage used.
An oxide shade suitable for certain mineral systems
The classification LW-Oxide is one of the main reasons to choose No. 3.
Mixol recommends its oxide shades especially for certain silicate coatings, mineral-setting materials, and silicone resin-based systems, as well as for certain technical paints.
This compatibility is still related to the product being colored: "universal" does not mean that the same dosage is suitable for all binders.
A preliminary test is therefore recommended before preparing the entire required quantity.
Dose gradually to control the color
Mixol Brown No. 3 is not used pure. It must be carefully incorporated into the base product.
The manufacturer indicates different maximum dosages depending on the systems: up to about 10% for certain dispersion paints, but lower quantities for lacquers, varnishes, stains, or mineral systems.
It is best to start with a small amount, mix completely, and then check the shade before adding more concentrate.
A color designed to last in compatible systems
Brown No. 3 is classified LW-Oxide and reaches the maximum level indicated in the Mixol chart for lightfastness and weather resistance at the tested concentrations.
It can thus be used for indoor or outdoor applications when the product in which it is incorporated has the necessary performance for that purpose.
